Movies & Music on the Lawn @ Baton Rouge Gallery

BRG and their friends at Forum 35 are proud to present the second installment in this summer's Movies and Music on the Lawn series (presented by Whole Foods Market). On Saturday, June 24, catch the phenomenal fusion of the silent drama ‘La Bohème’ (1926) and the experimental folk rock of Minos the Saint. Admission is $7 and includes free popcorn. BRG members get in free!

Based on the nineteenth century Italian opera of the same name, ‘La Bohème’ tells the story of struggling bohemians trying to survive in Paris’ Latin Quarter. Directed by King Vidor and starring Lillian Gish and John Gilbert, the film follows starving artists in their pursuit of fame and fortune in the bitter Parisian winter of 1830. What’s left is a tragic, yet beautiful love story that inspired the hit Broadway musical, ‘Rent’ (1996).

Baton Rouge-based Minos the Saint will perform an original live score to accompany ‘La Bohème.’ Start with Cajun and Zydeco roots, add Latin, Jazz, and Eastern European influence, and suddenly you have a recipe for Minos the Saint's experimental folk sound. Since this group of orchestrally trained musicians began playing together in 2013, they’ve shared bills with Phosphorescent, Wild Child, Brass Bed, and many more.
