Eclectic Truth featuring Sarah Webb @ Arts Council of GBR

Join the Eclectic Truth for a special show! Sarah Webb is our featured artist, and Jaxmyne will lead a pre-show workshop! 

7:00-7:50pm: Workshop led by Jaxmyne
7:50-8:15pm: Doors open for show
8:15pm-10:00pm: Slam/Sarah Webb Feature/Open Mic

Sarah's feature will draw from two recently published collections of poems and essays: Colorism Poems and Colorism Essays and Poems. This mixed genre feature is part reading of poetry and prose; part talk on the issue of colorism, blogging, hosting an international writing contest, and publishing; and part Q&A/dialogue.

This week is the begining of our 2018 Slam Season. Each week six poets have the opportunity compete in the slam! Poets who slam will accumulate points towards Grand Slam Finals, where they can earn a spot on the 2018 Eclectic Truth Slam Team. 

Not interested in the slam? Still wanna express? The open mic is available for all interested performing artists. Slam has space for six competitors, open mic has space for 10 guaranteed performers.

Sundays@4: Ronlyn Domingue and 'The Plague Diaries' @ Baton Rouge Gallery

On Sunday, September 17, Baton Rouge Gallery's Sundays@4 series welcomes acclaimed novelist Ronlyn Domingue for the release of her latest effort, "The Plague Diaries."

This epic is the conclusion of her "Keeper of Tales" trilogy, which follows the the mystically gifted heroine, Secret Riven. In bringing together the cryptic prophecy in "The Mapmaker’s War" and the troubling mysteries in "The Chronicle of Secret Riven," Book Three leads readers to an unforgettable reckoning between lies and truth.

BRG is particularly excited to welcome Domingue for this Sundays@4 event as the program has also hosted the releases for her first novel, "The Mercy of Thin Air," in 2005 and for the trilogy's first two installments, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

This event will begin at 4pm and is free and open to the public.

Eclectic Truth Ft Eclectic Truth Slam Team

 Tuesday evenings are for the Eclectic Truth Poetry Slam & Open Mic at The Firehouse Gallery located on the 1st floor of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. Eclectic Truth is the home of Baton Rouge's longest running poetry open mic and the city's only certified slam! 

This week features, The 2017 Eclectic Truth National Slam Team! The team consist of all 1st Time Poets to the National Competition. The members of the team are Chelsea Lynne Murray, Jazmyne Smith, Alejandro, Jolie Gilbert & Shannon Groll. They will be performing their entire set before heading out to Denver, Colorado and compete in this year's National Poetry Slam. 

The open mic has placements for 10 performers and the slam has space for six competitors. Come out to share your truth or to listen and enjoy some beverages at the complimentary, donation-based bar.

Summertime Open Mic with New South Story Lab

Join the Story Lab for "OutSpoken", a summertime open-mic reading at Dyson House Listening Room. The day's featured writer will be Bonny McDonald, with Ben Herrington on the accordion. There will be an open-mic segment to get started. Email  newsouthstorylab@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer to read!

A suggested donation of $10 will cover admission + food. All proceeds will go towards the Story Lab's free writing workshops in the city, benefitting young writers and storytellers from all backgrounds.
